In 2010, BMW celebrated the production of 1 millionth BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. Ever since its introduction to the market in 1999, the BMW X5 shaped up to be one of the most important vehicles ever built by the Munich-based automaker. In 2006 the second generation X5 was launched, known internally as the E70, and it became an instant success as well.
Now, the third generation X5 SAV is upon us and we have already seen a preview of its design, way ahead of the official launch this Spring. The third-generation F15 X5 uses the car architecture from the 5 Series which will make a significant contribution to weight reduction of more than 100 kilograms – despite its larger dimensions. The lower weight is also laying the groundwork for some weaker base engines. The base price will most likely be slightly higher than the current model.
But even with a new model in the pipeline, the prices for used X5 SAVs remain high. According to Cars.com, the BMW X5 luxury SUV surged 8% in February to $49,512, a $3,662 difference from January.
The E70 X5 leads in the Top 10 Biggest Price Increases for February, followed by the Subaru Impreza and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
