More coverage from the 2012 Essen Motor Show. The German tuning show is hosting companies from all around Europe that are ready to unveil their latest tuning programs. One of those companies is Manhart Racing which brought a series of BMWs to the show: MH5 S Biturbo based on the BMW M5 F10, MH3 V8 R Biturbo based on the BMW M3 Convertible E93 and also a surprise guest in the form of Manhart MHX6 Dirt Edition.
The Dirt Edition is built atop a BMW X6 xDrive50i with a relatively moderate increase in performance from 407 to 456 hp and a more flashier special vinyl wrap. The car also gets a widebody kit and the bonnet from the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. The special vinyl gives the car a military look.
Manhart Racing includes a suspension lift by 50 millimeters and 20-inch alloy wheels with 305 mm wide off-road tires which drives a reduction in the maximum speed that can be achieved: 180 km/h.
Introduced as the Manhart MH3 V8 R Biturbo, the E92 M3 has its 4.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine removed and replaced with an even more powerful unit: the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 S63, the very same unit from the X5 M and X6 M models.
Although the S63 unit provides more than adequate power for the M3, the S63 4.4 liter twin-turbo with its 555 horsepower clearly provides an impressive power boost, even without the tuning package offered by Manhard which brings the total output to 664 horsepower. Maximum torque was also raised to 975 Newton meters. The enormous thrust is handled by the six-speed automatic from the BMW X6 M, while the differential lock on the rear axle helps the power distribution between the two drive wheels.
The top speed is now rated at over 320 km/h.
