In an interview for Automotive News, Dr. Kay Segler, Head of MINI, says the company will add three models by the end of the decade.
Segler refrained from offering specific details on the three models, but they will likely use the upcoming front-wheel drive platform that will be shared with the BMW family as well.
The second generation MINI Cooper that debuts in 2014 will be the first to use the new platform. With the additional models, it will bring the MINI family to a total number of 10 members.
This year, MINI debuts in the United States the MINI Coupe and Roadster, “the twins” that were revealed last year.
Another interesting titbit comes from Jim McDowell, head of MINI USA, who said that last year over 40 percent of MINI cars sold in the U.S. were custom-ordered.
To keep up with the explosive growth, the company plans to open new dealerships between now and 2014, for a total of 125.
