The recently unveiled MINI Goodwood is just the first step in the Oxford-based brand to build a new offering within the ever growing MINI family. According to Autocar UK, the Goodwood name will serve as MINI’s flagship brand for high-end, customer-specified luxury versions.
The super-luxury MINI Goodwood was unveiled at the recent Shanghai auto show, and showcased the ultimate luxury of a Rolls Royce product in a MINI packaging.
The Goodwood badge is set to be used on other luxurious MINIs in the same way that the John Cooper Works badge represents its high-performance models.
MINI Goodwood will run in limited numbers, 1000, and will go on sale in early 2012. BMW sources says the car will cost around 47,000 euros in Europe.
“MINI inspired by Goodwood” was designed in close cooperation with Rolls Royce designers and is meant to embody the inimitable style of Rolls-Royce Design and to be a niche vehicle for the customers with a flair of individual approach. Rolls Royce has upgraded the MINI interior to the highest level of luxury possible in a small premium car. The exterior and interior design of MINI Goodwood is inspired by fine materials and the British luxury car marque’s commitment to absolutely flawless workmanship. The high-end MINI features exquisite materials and benefits from exclusive Rolls Royce colors and veneers and the most elegant nappa leather.
The Goodwood comes in a single specification in either the Rolls shade of Diamond Black metallic or Mini’s Reef Blue metallic.
The entire dashboard, center console and seats are finished in Rolls Cornsilk leather and the dash’s wood veneers come from Rolls. The Rolls-Royce typeface is also used on the instruments.
MINI Goodwood is powered by the 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the MINI Cooper S that develops 135 kW/184 hp and maximum torque of 240 Newton metres (177 lb-ft), which can be raised to 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft) for a short time using the Overboost function.
MINI has made no announcement on whether the Goodwood series will come to the US.
