During the media launch event of the new 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW emphasize one more time that their entry level model, 520d Touring is particularly aimed at the fleet customers.
With its highly efficient four-cylinder engine, the 2011 BMW 520d Touring is seen as an attractive options for car fleets. The diesel engine gives an excellent ratio of power consumption and despite its 184 horsepower, the F11 BMW 520d offers a standard consumption of just 5.1 liters of diesel per 100 km (46.1 mpg), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 135 grams per kilometer.
The direct competitor comes from Mercedes Benz with E-Class models powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine with standard fuel consumption ranging from 5.7 to 6.0 liters of diesels per 100 km (39-41 mpg). The power range varies from 136 to 204 horsepower.
Audi also competes at the lower-entry in the luxury touring segment with its Audi A6 Avant that produces 136 horsepower and has a fuel consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km (39.8 mpg). The more powerful Audi A6 2.0 TDI achieves 5.3 liters of diesel per 100 km (44.3 mpg).
In Germany, the F11 BMW 5 Series Touring starts at 42,600 euro, the 184 horsepower 520d model and a nicely equipped model as the one seen in the photos embedded here, will cost around 47,300 euros.
Along with the great fuel efficiency, the new Touring offers large cargo space, as illustrated below by a washing machine loaded into the trunk.
